Pittsburgh extended its undefeated streak to 14-0 with a commanding 34-3 victory over previously division-leading Las Vegas on December 3rd. The win, on the road at Las Vegas, solidifies Pittsburgh’s stronghold on the division at 5-0 while handing the home team its first loss in six outings against division opponents.
The game opened scoring early in the second quarter when Pittsburgh quarterback Joe Lockwood connected with Stacey Frick for a five-yard touchdown pass. Despite a pass interference penalty against Las Vegas being declined on the play, the touchdown gave Pittsburgh a 6-0 lead, quickly followed by a successful extra point by kicker Michael Turner.
Pittsburgh’s defense forced key turnovers throughout, disrupting Las Vegas’s offense, which amassed just four rushing yards on 14 carries and failed to find the end zone. In the second quarter, a Las Vegas fumble by 13-Vito Morgan was recovered by Pittsburgh, setting the tone that would persist through the entire game.
Michael Turner added two field goals, a 52-yarder in the second quarter and a 48-yarder in the third, stretching the lead to 13-0 before Pittsburgh’s offense struck again. A pivotal interception by Robert Melton midway through the third quarter halted a Las Vegas drive and led to a touchdown pass from Lockwood to tight end Ricardo Iacovelli, putting Pittsburgh ahead 20-0 after the extra point.
In the fourth quarter, the momentum was fully on Pittsburgh’s side. Lockwood threw another touchdown pass to Vito Morgan, giving Pittsburgh a 27-0 lead. Las Vegas managed a field goal late in the period, but it was their only score of the game. Pittsburgh's running back Leon Kline capped off the scoring with a 77-yard rushing touchdown, the team’s lone ground score, further emphasizing Pittsburgh’s offensive balance.
Statistically, Joe Lockwood completed 23 of 30 passes for 219 yards and a trio of touchdowns without throwing an interception. The rushing game was formidable with Charles Lewis leading the backfield with 128 rushing yards and 43 receiving yards, while Leon Kline chipped in with 110 rushing yards and a touchdown.
On defense, Pittsburgh limited Las Vegas to just 158 passing yards and 0 touchdowns, recording one interception and forcing multiple turnovers. While Las Vegas's Joseph Ullery recorded three sacks, Pittsburgh’s Joseph Meyer also contributed two sacks, ensuring constant pressure on the home team’s quarterbacks. Pittsburgh converted five of 13 third downs and was efficient in the red zone, scoring touchdowns on all three visits.
Las Vegas, on the other hand, struggled with only two third-down conversions on 14 attempts, and a single red zone visit that yielded no points beyond a late field goal. The home team finished the game with five penalties for 49 yards, more than double Pittsburgh’s three for 20 yards.
Both teams have secured their division titles ahead of the postseason, with Pittsburgh maintaining an unblemished record and a dominant point differential this season. Head Coach Eric Hess's squad showed balanced offensive production and a stifling defense that continues to challenge opponents. Pittsburgh now looks ahead to carry this momentum forward as the regular season winds down.
