The game opened with Pittsburgh taking an early lead when kicker Michael Turner converted a 26-yard field goal at 8:05 in the first quarter, giving the Panthers a 3-0 advantage. Later in the quarter, running back Paul Barry scored on a 5-yard run to put Pittsburgh up 9-0, followed by a successful extra point by Turner. Cincinnati responded with a kickoff return touchdown by Normand Burch, narrowing the score to 10-6, but Pittsburgh answered immediately when Barry returned the ensuing kickoff 110 yards for a touchdown. Turner converted the extra point, making the score 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Pittsburgh dominated the second quarter, adding 14 more points to take a 31-7 halftime lead. Quarterback Joe Lockwood connected with tight end Vincent Cashwell for a 2-yard touchdown and later found wide receiver Timothy Baker for a 33-yard score. Michael Turner was perfect on his kicking duties, accounting for all extra points and three field goals on the day.

On the ground, Pittsburgh displayed a powerful rushing attack with Paul Barry rushing for 175 yards and two receiving touchdowns, while Charles Lewis contributed 134 yards rushing. The Panthers totaled an impressive 358 rushing yards on 62 attempts. Lockwood completed 13 passes on 20 attempts for 132 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Pittsburgh limited Cincinnati's offense effectively. The Bengals managed only 100 passing yards and 15 rushing yards with no touchdowns. Cincinnati quarterback Elmer Tomko threw one interception. Pittsburgh's defense recorded one sack and recovered a fumble.

Special teams also played a key role. Michael Turner made all three field goal attempts, and Pittsburgh capitalized on a kickoff return touchdown. Despite Turner's brief injury during the first quarter kickoff return, he returned to successfully complete his kicking responsibilities.

Cincinnati struggled to mount any sustained offensive drives and failed to convert on third downs. Both teams had four penalties, but Pittsburgh had fewer yards penalized. Cincinnati falls to 6-7 and 1-5 in the division, with Coach Marvin Brown facing a difficult road ahead.

Pittsburgh's dominance on both sides of the ball solidifies their status as the team to beat in the division. Their balanced offense, strong defense, and effective special teams were all on display in a convincing win.
