NEW YORK (AP) — New York extended its winning streak to four games with a 23-13 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday at home. The game marked Week 4 of the 2072 regular season.

New York (A) improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in their division, while Pittsburgh fell to 3-1 and remains undefeated in division play at 3-0. Despite the loss, Pittsburgh still holds first place in the division based on standings.

The opening quarter set the tone as turnovers and punts dominated the early play. Pittsburgh's Jeremy Gonzales fumbled the ball on the very first offensive play, leading to a New York recovery, but New York quarterback Jose Lopez threw an interception immediately after. Both teams failed to capitalize early.

New York struck first blood with a touchdown run by running back Cody Jackson late in the first quarter. The short 2-yard rush at 10:47 put New York ahead 7-0 after Ian Quint converted the extra point.

Pittsburgh's offense struggled to find consistency against New York’s defense despite totaling 195 passing yards and 68 rushing yards. The team’s only touchdown came from a 1-yard rush by Paul Barry early in the second quarter, narrowing the deficit to 10-7 after Michael Turner’s extra point.

Field goals by Ian Quint, who nailed three attempts from 42, 47, and 31 yards, contributed to New York's scoring. New York’s last field goal pushed the lead to 13-10 in the third quarter.

Pittsburgh matched with two field goals from Turner but never crossed the goal line again after their lone second-quarter touchdown.

Defensively, New York recorded nine sacks and forced three fumbles, recovering four in total, including a key fumble recovery late in the third quarter after forcing a ball loose from Pittsburgh’s returner. New York's defense also intercepted Pittsburgh quarterback Joe Lockwood three times, though Lockwood avoided throwing any touchdowns himself.

On offense, New York’s passing game was modest, with Jose Lopez completing 12 of 23 passes for 182 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Wide receiver Charles Parrish led receiving with 76 yards and a rushing touchdown, while running backs Cody Jackson and Federico Boykin combined significant yardage on the ground and through the air.

Pittsburgh's Paul Barry led his team with 62 rushing yards and a receiving touchdown, while wide receiver Timothy Baker had a team-best 79 receiving yards. However, Pittsburgh was unable to convert their yardage into more points.

Coach Jared Butler’s New York squad maintained control from start to finish, capitalizing on key turnovers, special teams plays, and methodical drives. Meanwhile, Coach Eric Hess’s Pittsburgh team committed six penalties for 55 yards and lost critical fumbles and interceptions that hurt their comeback efforts.

Pittsburgh now faces the challenge of rebounding next week after suffering their first loss, while New York maintains a perfect record as they continue to lead their division. Both teams remain competitive playoff contenders as the season progresses.
